Notes: If you have already heard me tell this story, then you can stop right here, but I love to tell it so here it is again. I did not grow up near my grandparents. Every time we would make the long trip to visit my grandmother, she would have a pot of goulash waiting for us. You know how those memories can instantly connect you to a meal, making it taste extra special? Goulash is a Hungarian dish of meat and vegetables, a symbol of my heritage. I don’t have my grandmother’s exact recipe. I actually don’t think she even had a recipe. She would just throw a bunch of things in the pot and it came out delicious each time. I’ve tried to replicate the recipe over the years, and the link above is as close as I have been able to come. I hope my kids also have loving memories of this dish!

Anyone else out there pining after some local arugula, asparagus, strawberries, or ________ (insert any fresh vegetable in here other than root vegetables)? I saw a robin today and realized that spring really is just around the corner. We’ve still got a good 2 months before we can get any fresh produce here in Wisconsin, but that robin reminded me that if you are patient, the season will come before you know it. For now I’ll keep plugging away with my winter recipes and use up all those storage veggies I have socked away in the basement refrigerator, supplemented with a little bit of California sprinkled in. I’m sure you’ve seen a few of these recipes before, but sometimes repetition is a good thing. The more you make a dish, the quicker you get at it. Sometimes I don’t even need the instructions anymore!
